DSL Broadband Providers And Their Services
Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) technology has taken over the dial up connection's market in the recent years. Now with this technology it is no longer required to hog telephone lines full time to have internet access. DSL provides data transfer at faster speeds and due to this and many more benefits, internet users have been rushing to various DSL broadband providers.
The types of DSL technologies available in the market are ADSL, SDSL, HDSL, VDSL etc. Each technology offers a unique facility of some kind. Accordingly, there are a number of broadband service providers that either provide different DSL technology or charge differently per connection or the services offered to their customers. Some of the renowned service providers are- Covad, AT&T, Earthlink, Savvis, MSN, Megapath, New Edge etc.
Following are some questions that the customer needs clarification up on before going for a particular ISP:
* Is it required to sign a contract for the service. If yes, then what are its terms and conditions. Does the contract carry any sort of cancellation fee too? These are some questions that a customer must clarify before signing the contract because the user will be the customer for a particular plan for the coming few months. He should be assured of all the terms and conditions before hand only.
* Is the IP (Internet Protocol) offered by the service dynamic or static.
* Is the modem offered by the company has to be purchased or can be taken on lease. There are many companies that offer modem free too.
* The user must know the access speed and the cost associated with that speed. The plan fee increases with the increase in the speed of access. However, lower tariff plans that offer lower speed and cost to the users are also available which are still better than the conventional dial up networks.
* Almost all companies charge a fee for activating the connection. The customer should be aware of that also.
* Connection packages come with an installation software so that we install them on our own. But some times the installation procedure is quite complicated and therefore we require some kind of technical support. A fee is also charged for the technical help we require. Thus a customer must clear the above queries before buying a connection. Also there is a list of various related services that these companies offer to its customers like site hosting facility, web design, e-mail accounts, programming, network installation, shopping charts etc. It is not mandatory that all the providers should provide all the service features to its customers.
